HOW CAN I CHANGE THE ADMIN PASSWORD FOR MY WORDPRESS SITE USING PHPMYADMIN?

OVERVIEW

Occasionally, circumstances will arise in which you are unable to remember your WordPress admin password, and cannot reset your password using WordPress's integrated email functions. In these situations, it may be necessary to reset your password using phpMyAdmin.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. First, you'll need to log into phpMyAdmin and enter the MySQL database associated with your WordPress installation.
  2. Once in your database, select the wp_users table.
  3. From the wp_users table, click the checkbox for the user_pass field, then click the “Browse” tab.
  4. Find the ID number associated with your login (there is usually only one) and click Edit (pencil button).
  5. Select the password content and delete it. Type in your new password as you normally would.
  6. In the dropdown menu, choose MD5. This will encrypt your password with the proper hash:

  1. Click the Go button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
  2. Return to the tab for your WordPress blog admin login page and test the new password. If it doesn’t work, start over.
